The Micah Program
Live, Study, and Serve Together!

One of twelve Micah Small Groups that meet for an hour each week.

"I have really enjoyed being a part of the Micah community this year. It really helped me to grow and expand as a person, and to come out of my comfort zone. I have met incredible people who both share my ideas and values and who don't, and I have learned a lot from every person that I have encountered." Reflection from a first-year Micah student, Spring 2016

As a student in the Micah Service and Faith Community, you will

  • Experience a community of students who are diverse in their majors, their interests, and their personal backgrounds
  • Make friends among first-year and sophomore students while living on a Micah floor in Marguerite Hall
  • Share suites with two doubles connected by a bathroom (for 4 women or 4 men)
  • Live among sophomore Mentors committed to helping out during your first year in college
  • Share a variety of floor activities organized by Housing and Residence Life staff.

Perform community service in neighborhoods surrounding campus

  • Experience weekly service arranged to fit your schedule and your interests
  • Fulfill the required 30 hours of community service per semester
  • Choose from more than 15 service sites that work with the program
  • Use transportation to all of the Micah Program service sites provided by the program.

Take some of your first-year courses in special Micah sections

  • In the fall semester, you will take two special Micah sections of Theology 1000, Philosophy 1050, or English 1900
    • In one of the four Micah THEO 1000 sections, emphasis is placed on issues related to women and gender
  • In the spring semester, you'll take at least one more Micah course related to your weekly service
  • Micah first-year courses fulfill core requirements in nearly all majors.

Share a floor with other first-year students who think faith is important

  • Be a part of a non-denominational, faith-based program
  • Gather in small and large groups to enjoy community activities led by older students for an hour each week
  • Experience a diverse community that welcomes students from all faiths and all majors to apply.
