Academic offerings: The Urban Affairs Major in the Department of Public Policy Studies offers courses that take up the crucial matter of housing, including ones focused on the metropolitan environment, classic studies of urban communities, and urban economic policy.

Experiential learning: As part of the major, students have to complete an urban internship. Examples include working in a number of major planning and policy-making bodies, including the St. Louis City Mayor's Office, the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Focus St. Louis, the Board of Aldermen, and the Bi-State Development Agency. Several Urban Affairs courses also offer service-learning opportunities.

Employment opportunities: A degree from the Department of Public Policy Studies offers you opportunities as an urban housing planner, or assistant city manager.
