Academic offerings: Course offerings in the Urban Affairs major in the Public Policy Studies Department include classes that deal in considerable depth with urban public service, social services, and the ways to deliver such services most effectively.

Experiential learning: As part of the major, students have to complete an urban internship. Examples include working in a number of major planning and policy-making bodies, including the St. Louis City Mayor's Office, the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Focus St. Louis, the Board of Aldermen, and the Bi-State Development Agency. Several Urban Affairs courses also offer service-learning opportunities.

Employment opportunities: A degree from the Department of Public Policy Studies offers you opportunities as an assistant city manager, employee of an urban public agency, urban planner, or worker in a non-profit neighborhood agency.
